Duke Residence Hall
Davidson College

Named in honor of James B. Duke, the founder of The Duke Endowment, Duke Hall was built in 1939 and is one of Davidson's oldest student residences. The facility includes three floors and a basement level.  Design for the 100-bed residence hall features a combination of new suites and refurbished single and double rooms.  The project involved the renovation of 14,944 existing square feet, with 17,625 sf of new construction and is the first building on the Davidson campus to achieve LEED Certification.  The buildings's common areas  provide space where faculty and guest speakers can meet with students to discuss international issues and will  serve as a venue for special events.

The renovation and addition to the Duke Hall establishes a permanent home of the college's Dean Rusk International Studies Program. Named for Davidson's distinguished alumnus who was Secretary of State during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, the program fosters initiatives designed to ensure that Davidson students gain a broad understanding of all dimensions of global affairs.  The housing, combined with international programming, will assist students in the transition from study abroad experiences by providing a community with shared interests, experiences and challenges.
