The 16,000-sf Mountain Island Library is the newest branch of the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County and is located in the rapidly growing Mountain Island community of Charlotte.

Situated next to a small pond, the new library's environmentally friendly design is reflected in the exterior stone cladding and generous expanses of glass.  A row of clerestory windows opens up the roofline to maximize natural light. Deep overhangs and high-performance glazing ensure a comfortable and energy-efficient environment, while interior finishes emphasize warm colors and vibrant activity.

In addition to an impressive collection of books, periodicals and electronic media, the new library boasts 40 computers and a variety of programs for children, teens and adults.
