Petty Building Renovation
UNC Greensboro

J•PA was retained by UNC Greensboro to program, plan and design the comprehensive renovation of the Petty  Building (ca. 1939). The existing building contains three floors of classroom, laboratory and office space; a partial basement, plus a partial fourth floor at the central portion of the plan.

The interior of the building will be completely demolished, reconfigured and brought into full ADA compliance. This includes the addition of a structural steel pedestrian bridge, providing direct access from the street to a newly-created second-floor building entrance.

Building system upgrades include new plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems as well as a new fire suppression system.  The insertion of state-of-the-art audiovisual and IT systems will support the University's commitment to 21st Century learning.

The building exterior will not change significantly in appearance, but will experience substantial upgrades including: a new roof, new windows and entrances, and repair and waterproofing of exterior masonry.
